Let's keep going.......

Good Morning everyone,

Do you have any suggestions as to how I can spend the eons of free time I have on my hands??? My principal job as I said and you might have noticed in the last couple of weeks; will be over today and I only have 3 finals over the span of a month. Three.....that's it!!!! So other than my part time Harbourfront Centre shifts I practically have nothing to keep my hyperactive mind occupied.....Help, please.

While looking for a job is should be full time work in itself, it has been able to capture my attention for much longer than 3 hours a day and I have found myself getting desperate for anything other than job hunting. Lately the activities I have indulged myself have been, cleaning, restoring and putting away all my boots, packing away winter clothes and window shopping for colours to design my greeting cards. I really need some good quality pens with a lot of choice in ink colours or pencil colours that can be turned into watercolors by brushing over with water. I am looking to do a stained glass effect on regular ivory cardstock so I need really vibrant colours. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Anyway, a few posts back I mentioned buying my first ever black blazer and also my dilemma in whether to keep it or exchange it for a white blue stripy on I spotted right after buying it. So after agonizing over it for about a day I let my practical side win and kept the black blazer. I am actually figuring it's one of those things I am slowly falling in love with. Plus it would be perfect for the interviews, when I do get them.

These photos are taken behind my school. We are equally blessed and cursed by its location, because while it is surrounded by a beautiful ravine and forests it is also located in the middle of nowhereville. Which equals a slow and inefficient in my opinion bus ride and an overwhelming desire to skip classes on chilly or worse mornings.

OK, I gotta go now, my eyes are drooping and I might just press the wrong key and make it all disappear. So before that happens, Goodnight.

Lakme India Fashion Week Summer-Resort 2010: Edition II

I am back again with more jewels from an emerging fashion scene not so known in this part of the world. Dear readers the review of Lakme India Fashion Week continues with Lina Tipnis, the only Indian designer to have designed for Queen Rania of Jordon and in this collection she brought alive the mind boggling treasures of the Topkapi palace, the swirling Turkish dervishes, the beautiful blue Iznik tiles and the 14th century Grand Bazaar of the magical city of Istanbul.  She used the neutral palette as a base and used the Trompe L'Oeil method as well as various semi precious stones to give the collection its due glamour.
Malini Ramani’s vibrant sparkling clothes are all set to be seen on jet set cocktail circuits in urban style capitals across the world. Known for her vibrant creations and love goddess look, Malini’s clothes brought together the beauty of East and West culminating in a hippie-chic look with a dash of Bollywood glamour all presented in the form of the wardrobe of a citizen of the world. In other words, in a perfect world this is my wardrobe.

Neelanjan Ghosh is known more for his creation of characters rather than clothes. His garments tell a story and the wearer almost magically gets transformed into an enchanted character.  In this particular collection he was inspired by the colonial past of Kolkata and the present modern vibe of the city weaving it all into a collection called “Babu, Bibi Aar Keta”. His collection clearly screamed military but in a soft, Indian way.

British Vogue Editor Dolly Jones summed up a recent collection of Payal Singhal saying “Gorgeous dresses for dressing up in downtown New York with just enough of the genuine Indian magic that designers all over the world try to recreate.” Her trademark is easy to care and easy to wear but still red carpet chic clothes for the high power, jet setter fashionista. Keeping to a neutral colour palette of ecru and sand; Payal had dramatic crystal encrusted pieces for a touch of striking glamour.

It was a love story of a different kind between a sailor and his sweetheart that Rimi Nayak showed on the ramp called Azure Amour. Starting with the Fatal Attraction look inspired by the sea farer’s uniforms with structured silhouette with drapes and some deconstruction, Rimi moved to Endless Wait, which had elegant Grecian drapes for dresses. It was a refreshingly brilliant way to explore the ever so charming nautical theme, in a whole new light, i.e by staying 100% true to the classic sailor uniform.

I have 3 more designers to feature and they truly deserve their spot in the finale of this review series of Lakme India Fashion Week Summer-Resort 2010.

Sailor suit

This cute little number captured my attention a while back in Forever 21. Since I was looking to expand my wardrobe and had absolutely nothing in the marine/sailor theme, I thought I would give it a go. Paired it up with trusted navy tights and my most favorite flats ever. The red t was a mandatory addition because although Rishi looks super comfy in his fur, the temperature was bordering around freezing when I took these photos. But I discovered with pleasure that Gap Body T-shirts make the most wonderful layering options indeed, with an added bonus of no stretching or shrinking. no matter how many washer/dryer cycles they've been through. Truth be told I have never felt more cheerful on a gloomy rainy day.

Next I am on the hunt for a nice sailor's hat, some anchor shaped pendants or charms, any ideas dear ladies and gents??

P.S: It's my boy's birthday tonight at 12 A.M. I have not made the card yet, so wish me luck please.

My heart goes ummm...ummmmm.ummm

I am so happy...so so happy. It looks like spring is here...finally. This weekend has been sinfully delightful. Yesterday the day started with a midterm that did not go so well but ended with a mind blowing celebration of my friend E's birthday. I made a card again (pictures coming soon) and we went to this fabulous place for a mouth watering, finger and plate licking dinner, and topped the night off with turtle fudge cake and cocktails back at E's place.

The photos reflect my first attempt at spring florals. I have a very small wardrobe and before this year have never even considered wearing clothes in March that have a spring-y feel to them. Honestly the things blogging makes me do. But....I am loving every second of mixing, matching and layering up with my tiny wardrobe.

On a side note, as you may have noticed you can now follow me on twitter. And......and....I have been accepted at IFB (Independent Fashion Bloggers) as you can also see from the badge I'm sporting on my side bar.

P.S: I bought my first ever black blazer at H&M today. They were going on sale and the damned thing fit me better than any of it's cousins have so far. So I bought it. But just as I was getting out I saw another light blue and white vertical striped, nautical themed blazer with shiny gold buttons. Now I am torn. Whimsy or practicality? Simple black blazer or nautical themed blazer? Please dear readers, any suggestion will be much appreciated.

Where shadow chases light or vice versa

This is my delight,
thus to wait and watch at the wayside
where shadow chases light
and the rain comes in the wake of the summer.

Messengers, with tidings from unknown skies,
greet me and speed along the road.
My heart is glad within,
and the breath of the passing breeze is sweet.

From dawn till dusk I sit here before my door,
and I know that of a sudden
the happy moment will arrive when I shall see.

In the meanwhile I smile and I sing all alone.
In the meanwhile the air is filling with the perfume of promise.

P.S: Things at the work front are not going well at all. I never thought I would see it happen, but I am actually experiencing first hand, a wonderful organization crumbling down in pieces. Ironic isn't it, that slowly we are going to be joining the same pool of unemployed people that we have been helping to find jobs. A well respected and experienced colleague was let go this week, in front of me, the process just took five minutes; one minute he was here and the next....gone. I was too shocked and only realized I was crying when a client mentioned the drop of tear that was on my cheek. I do not know what to do anymore. But my only hope is this when doom surrounds you from all sides, there can only be better times ahead, isn't it?

Please forgive my unrelated ramblings, I sometimes need to vent out too. Just ignore this part and let the photos occupy your mind.
