A vision in turquoise......

It's the end of the semester again....and I am kind of overwhelmed by the looming deadlines and final exam preparations. This time comes every semester but it takes getting some used to every time. I have been a less devoted blogger than I would have liked to be and feel like I am a naughty child overridden by guilt for doing something I was not supposed to.

Does this happen to any of you? Do you too sometimes get overwhelmed by our real life and feel very guilty about not being able to blog/ indulge in another hobby you may have? Why does this happen?

I am going to indulge myself in some Italian food with some dear friends tonight, hoping some good company and delicious food will be able to bring me out of this stupor I am in. Wish me luck. Love you all.

This week I 'm reading.........Old lady chic

Ever since I have started blogging I discovered some outstanding blogs, met some really stylish individuals and got to know some wonderful people. Each week from now on, I will introduce you to one of these individuals and I hope you'll love getting to know them at least as much as I did if not more.

Kerri's blog was love at first site for me. Her beautiful header photo drew me in and each week her vibrant, retro outfits kept me coming. Here's Kerri in her own words....

Kerri - Old Lady Chic

My name is Kerri, I grew up in Massachusetts in a very small town but packed up my car when I was 18, drove to Florida and have been living here ever since. I graduated with a Bachelors degree in film and video production and now I am a broadcast technician/editor for a cable movie network. My blog is named Old Lady Chic, a nickname my old roommate gave my style a long time ago!

After I graduated college, I had a regular 9-5 working job and slowly realized my creative side was slipping away. Now trust me, I've never been super into fashion, but once I found myself working in an office after years of wearing uniforms to work, (I was a waitress through college) I started experimenting and finding my real sense of style. which led me to vintage clothes and retro styles. I found Modcloth and started reading their bloggers of the moment and then it just expanded from there! I thought if these girls could do it, why couldn't I?

Describing my personal style would be a tough one….but I guess the name of my blog describes me best, Old Lady Chic. I love vintage, retro styles from the fifties and sixties. But I love to throw modern aspects into outfits and really every day can be different. That is what is so great about it! I'm an avid thrifter and a firm believer that any trend can be found at the salvation army for much cheaper, as long as you are willing to search for it!

When I’m not blogging, I love to watch movies, it is basically my job. I watch movies for 8 hours a day and get paid for it! I also just took a sewing class and made my first skirt, next up a dress! Other than that, I pretty much just hang out with my boyfriend, my cat, and my friends. Go to the park, take walks, watch Maury, drink coffee, listen to records, and cook like crazy.

Being from New England, Florida took a lot of adjusting. There are no seasons, so this time of year I start getting a little depressed. Christmas just isn't the same to me when it is 75 degrees out. But, there are many positive things! At Christmas it is 75 degrees out! The beaches are gorgeous and Fort Lauderdale is called the Venice of America, because it is basically just made up of canals and waterways. You can take a boat ride around and see million dollar homes where Lucille Ball used to live! Also, the best Spanish and Cuban food you can get around every corner! If you haven't had Arepas or Arroz con Pollo you haven't lived!

The most amazing thing about blogging has definitely been the support I've gotten from the blogging world. I was very afraid that I wouldn't find a following or be accepted, but honestly I can't believe how nice everyone is to each other. It is such a change from catty, jealous girls who always try to one-up each other. It is good to know that not everyone acts like a high-schooler. I really feel like I get to know these girls that follow me or that I follow. It is great to feel part of a community that is positive and promotes confidence! Also, my Mom gets more excited about my blog than I do sometimes! If you check out my outfits she almost always has made some sort of contribution. She still lives up north, but manages to shop and ship things she knows I will love, and does a great job doing it! It is a nice way for us to keep in touch and she can see me every day.

Sometimes, I think photos are not enough, even words alone are not enough to express what I feel. I love clothes, not just because of what they represent, but how they are with you as you create memories and how they make you remember. A simple dress can be associated with an event so beautiful that every time you wear it, a smile automatically spreads on your face and the world is all of a sudden magical again.

This dress holds some very special memories to me and when I found myself reaching for this dress twice in a week almost absentmindedly, I wondered why..... It's not like this medley of plum and purple is my favorite colour in the world. No.....I think I reach for this dress because on a very special day, when I felt like I am on top of the world, I was wearing this. And it's my subconscious that makes me reach for it every so often....lest I forget.

P.S: I would not say this bag from E-bay is the best satchel bag out there, but its much better than the Nine West one and is perfect for the kind of rough use that I put my bags through.

An otherworldly woman

I often find myself attracted to editorials that have a certain classical painting-esque quality about them. Perhaps it is my early years spent in an art school pouring over classical art books, trying to understand the techniques of the great masters......or maybe it is my love for all things Victorian that would not let me rest until I shared these photos with you. Hope you like them at least as much as I did if not more.

White dove..fly with the wind..

I have recently been reading "This Year I Will" by M J Ryan, a street smart version of The Secret. What stood out to me most in this book is what the author said about gratitude. She did not know how but has observed time and time again that when somebody expressed gratitude on a regular basis, they somehow attract more things into their lives to be grateful for.

I started keeping a gratitude journal shortly after reading "The Secret". You would not know this if you met me now but sarcasm was my middle name. I was brought up in a pessimistic environment, where expecting and preparing for the worst was/is the norm. So reading this book brought about the ultimate paradigm shift.

My journal acts as a reminder for all things that truly make me happy and somehow, writing them down make these memories more vivid in my mind and they automatically rush to the forefront of my mind especially when I am in an unpleasant situation. As if to remind me, lest I forget.

Have you ever tried a Gratitude Journal? How has it affected your life?

P.S: Those who itch from wool and are looking for an ivory cardigan, this one is truly exceptional. It's the softest, comfiest and prettiest cardigan I own.

Solution to my shoe organization dilemma

Many of you probably remember when I wrote about my shoe organization dilemma.....right?? This is what my shoe collection used to look like.

After much research and attempts at tearing my hair out I decided to try the clear shoe boxes by Shoe Stor. They were a bit pricier than the IKEA boxes for sure...but they were clear, had the potential to fit perfectly in the bottom of my bedroom closet and they were from right here in Toronto.

So I looked up their website, wrote to them asking if I could test out some of their boxes first. The owner, a very nice gentleman, replied right away and sent me some boxes a few weeks later.
Personally I am very impressed with the quality of the boxes. They are made of a sturdy plastic, lays flat to store and are quite easy to assemble given that I could put them together when the boy was at work. Shoe Stor's website also has step-by-step assembly instructions but I did not need them. No matter how big or small your shoe collection might be their 5 pk, 10 pk and 20 pk boxes for shoes, boots and handbags will answer the prayers of every shoe and bag lover.

This is what my shoe collection looks like now. :)

I was so happy with my boxes that I went a step ahead an became an affiliate, as you can see from the ad on my left side bar. So if any of you would like to buy them, please click on the ad. As I have said before half of all the proceeds from this blog will go to Make a Wish Foundation this Christmas. So go ahead and make a child's wish come true. :)

Thanks a bunch everyone, see you next time!!

I've got sunshine on a cloudy day.....

I was almost ecstatic with joy when the package from Mod Cloth arrived the night before we were to leave for my birthday. It made packing so much easier to just be able to throw everything that came, into the suitcase with my trusted red skirt.

This cardigan is one of the most beautiful ones I own, the lace collars full of old world charm, the knit thin but perfectly warm for Canadian winters and the buttons shaped like tiny bows. The tights were also another wise purchase as the soft sweater knit is thick enough to wear on its own till temperatures hit -5 degree celcius. In fact even after that just with another thin layer underneath it would be perfect to withstand the coldest of Canadian winters.

Right after I made this purchase I pledged to go on a shopping ban till 30th April, 2011. I decided on it because my shopping addiction was at a point that the second after I clicked the complete transaction button online, I started hating myself, realizing I really did not need that and I do not have any space to put it in my overflowing closet. Then I would go ahead and donate bags and bags of stuff from my closet....and the cycle continued...until I told myself that this is it. It has been just around two weeks but I already feel much better and even stronger about the decision.
