Tomorrow is Canada Day. I'm most likely going to spend the entire day at Ashbridge's Bay on this rare holiday and hopefully catch the fireworks at Ontario Place. On another note, this gauze tunic is the universe's answer to my prayer for a perfect summer ivory top. It's probably going to be a love affair for life (or as long as I/it live/s) and a little but sure step towards my dream wardrobe. :)

Wishing you all a very relaxing and blissfully hot Canada Day tomorrow!!!

Why build a perfect wardrobe : An exercise in manifestation

It recently occurred to me that the benefits of building a perfect wardrobe are many more than meets the eye.

For example, it can be a prime opportunity to exercise manifestation. For those of you who are unclear on its meaning, manifestation essentially means creating the life you want.

Take some time today to truly identify your personal style. Then, you should be able to discover, albeit over time and through much pondering; what your ideal wardrobe would contain. Be very specific about the contents of your dream wardrobe, don't settle for the second best and do not compromise. If you reward yourself with what you truly want, you will feel so abundant that that hankering after quantity over quality will disappear. A desire to consume is mostly born out of deficiency, the feeling we get when we don't really take the time to know ourselves, and fill our life with fluff. Then we feel as though everyone else's possessions are sweeter than our own. But if we really knew ourselves, we would realize how unique each of us are, and we don't really need everything others have.

Write down the contents of your dream wardrobe. Note color, material, construction, style, as many details as you can conceive. You do not have to hurry, this is meant to be done over some time and you will see as you delve deeper into yourself, knowledge will come naturally.

Once you have this knowledge, then you will not only be able to vividly picture the items in your mind, you will also form a deep desire to acquire those items in order to truly make your wardrobe an extension of your soul. Thus you are setting your heart on acquiring only a select few, perfect items. Naturally you will not want to indulge in mindless consumerism which will only take you further away from your goal. And with perseverance, patience and careful planning ultimately you will surely achieve your dream wardrobe.

Think for a moment now, this is not a coincidence, it is a thoughtful execution of a carefully conceived plan. And that is what manifestation really is, no? Knowing what you want, making it clear in your mind and pursuing it with all your being!!!

Tranquil spaces

My bedroom, in its current state is a literal translation of minimalism as an aesthetic sense. Truth be told I've never lived in a room so devoid of color, but then again it's this lack that inspires me and welcomes me to a night of peaceful slumber. It is perfect for balmy summer days, but come fall and winter I will need to infuse some color to make it warm and inviting. The flowers on my nightstands outline a departing point for the color scheme I plan to pursue.

As you can see from my inspiration post, this is merely the first step towards perfecting the dream decor of mine. But it's a step in the right direction. There are many changes to come, little and big, but for now, I'm rather satisfied with this canvas.

Summer side of life

All year long I eagerly anticipate this day, making elaborate outfit plans to celebrate the first day of real hot weather, of the kind I grew up with. But when this day actually shows up, all I can think of are the breeziest, simplest attires. This summer, I've truly discovered the pleasures of full length dresses, they are incredibly stylish, adding an air of nonchalance as well as a glamor from a bygone era to one's every step. This simple dress, in the vividest fuschia I could find, paired with a batik print linen blazer and some carefully picked jewels, is one of the few ensembles in my wardrobe that is an extension of my soul, a perfect embodiment of how I want the world to see me. I can't really describe in words how peaceful and confident I feel in this attire, it's inexplicable really!

Glory of a long forgotten past

Photoshoot opportunities have been few since my move. I am still ironing out the home improvement kinks that require contractors and me running around in hardware stores and making appointments. But finally the curtain rods are up and all the furniture has been assembled. Now I just need to do a thorough cleaning and find the perfect set of drapes and a doormat for the entryway. Hopefully by the end of this week I'll be able to share some photos of my bedroom.

A few days ago, I made a trip to Casa Loma, maybe for the last time. This architectural splendor built by Henry Pellet is the only thing resembling a castle that Toronto has. Like many historical symbols and structures, Torontonians are not much interested in preserving this magnificent building. So I'm rather unsure of it's future amidst the talks of tearing it down and building condominiums in its place. I particularly like its beautiful garden, with its ponds, meandering pathways, manicured flowerbeds and numerous rosebushes. It feels much like "A Secret Garden", so I'll be really sad to see it go. So this is my attempt to keep it alive in memory the way I saw it.

Lately in Toronto, we are enjoying a truly beautiful weather. It makes my new home feel all the more special because I can actually keep all the windows and doors open for the heavenly breeze to play. Speaking of home, nothing could have prepared me for the spectacular sight that stood before me the first time I turned off the lights at night. The glittering lights of downtown was on one side and the inky blue lake Ontario on the other. I have never imagined being able to see something so gorgeous from my own home.

Everyday I wake up and take a walk around the blank canvas that is my home at the moment. A friend advised that I buy furniture in shades of white and neutral light wood, to make the space look bigger. That is what I did and now everyday I go out with a mission to add a touch of color and whimsy to the canvas.

The photos are taken on the Danforth, I have not yet found a regular spot to take photos in my new neighborhood, but have looked at many potential ones, a huge cemetery being one of them. But now that I am not living near the Danforth, I find the its many pubs, Greek eateries and quirky little shops calling my name more than usual. So the boy and I spend our evenings alternating between The One and a staircase opposite Le Trou Normand in Yorkville, listening to spellbinding music while soaking in the last rays of summer sun.
