A simple affair

The last few weeks have rushed by unbelievably fast. This is my first time taking more than the recommended course load at school and only now that I'm halfway through my midterms, I'm finally starting to figure out a study strategy. To my utter dismay, I had to turn down every single fashion show invitation I had for LG Fashion Week. Why must they all occur in the university mid-term period? Even for the FW shows it's the same.

But then again I guess it's really okay since my camera is broken, and can only take photos without any zoom when the mood strikes it. From now on most photos I post will be taken either via bf's phone/ my phone until we save up for a good camera.

Last time, I had posted about the wardrobe basics I had acquired, so it is only fitting that I show them in action. As I spend long hours between school and work, hauling my books and laptop on the 3-4 hour commute between suburbia and downtown T.O everyday; I find myself more and more drawn to simple silhouettes that look as well put together at the end of the day as they do fist thing in the morning. A flared skirt, simple top, good shoes and some choice accessories are all I need. I think I'm slowly approaching another style transformation!

Fall 2011 updates

This fall, I've probably had to adopt a stricter budget than ever, what's with one course needing six textbooks and the astronomical prices of literally disposable textbooks let's just say frivolous shopping has been the last thing on my mind. It was out of sadness that I decided, since I can't shop for fancy fripperies to my heart's content, I would devote all my meager savings and birthday gift money towards purchasing some quality basics that will stand the test of passing trends and time. You know the kind I am talking about, items that are not very very fun to shop for but makes your closet stretch by about an extra mile.

Any way, I made a list of about 13 items as a rough goal for this Fall - Winter. So far I have two heavenly organic cotton boat neck tee shirts from Zara, black and Breton striped, very sensual but utterly nonchalant. A croc embossed vintage black leather belt with a shiny gold buckle. An exquisite ivory button down and a perfect Little Black Dress both from Anthropologie. Sturdy little heeled black brogues from....who would have thought...Aldo!!! And.........last but not the least ........in fact my most significant acquisition to date..........my FRYE Carson boots, a splurge, but as probably the only pair of walkable boots in the world that make my legs look LONGER.....they are worth every single shiny copper penny.

Refined scallops button up, Anthropologie; Noon & night dress, Anthropologie; Kendzior brogues, Aldo; Carson pull on boots, Frye; Organic cotton t-shirt Breton stripe & Black, Zara

I'm so happy....these apparently non-trendy and simple purchases give me endless combinations to play with; making dressing for school fun again. I would have never thought that what I had considered a restraining strategy would pay off so nicely.

Are you shopping for anything specific this Fall-Winter?

Change of scene

Sometimes taking a step back helps us see things....really see them. I have been away for over a month. The first week I felt free, like I was taking a vacation; second week guilt overpowered me, not because of the lack of posts but because I was not even feeling the urge to post. It was in the third week that I took a step back, I questioned my motifs, why was I feeling guilty? uninspired yes, frustrated double yes? but why guilty that I am not posting? who do I write for, really? With fourth week came understanding, acceptance and freedom. Ah I had created a well of expectation in the very place I had wanted to break free of expectations.........therein lies the problem.

As I realize this, writing is once again a source of pleasure, so is living life, capturing its small moments to bring it from me to you. There will probably be no rhyme or reason in my posting, I might feel like it again tonight or not for two months. And when I do they might be range from the most perfect striped shirt I've ever owned to my favorite Toronto patio. As I finish my last year of school, a world of possibilities lies beyond, and everything, like life itself remains to be seen.
